It’s hard to “like” it, there is no emoticon for “heartbreaking and terrifying.” I wish his voice were heard in the “New York Times” and “Seattle Times,” but such voices are drowned out by the most vociferous far left hysteria and the media, which has lost its credibility among those who read other sources and know the nuanced truth.
Thank you, Emily, for this article. I wonder if it could be submitted to The NYT or The Washington Post, as such articles must reach wide audience.
"In my network, when a Jewish American hears language like “from the river to the sea,” and “Hamas isn't a terrorist group, they're freedom fighters,” those types of phrases in that language, they feel like a call to violence against Israelis and other Jews." It's not only protestors. People who say this get hired as UW faculty members, members of boards and commissions, managers of substantial government agencies and award winners. This is where the antisemitism becomes institutionalized.
Clearly and consisently articulate jewish values which offer an alternative to increasingly dangerous ideologies. But what are they? I would suggest a start. Courage, compassion, wisdom, integrity, respect and faith. Add more if you like.
I am a Jew with family in Israel, and I completely support Israel's right to exist. At the same time, and of equal importance, I support rights for Palestinians, and their right to a state of their own. Israel's conduct over the years has made a two state solution impossible. Her response to Hamas's sick, disgusting, inhumane pogrom, however, has been cruel. Denying food, water, medicine, electricity and fuel to an entire population (most of whom detest Hamas), such collective punishment is outrageous. Telling. no, demanding, that hundred of thousands of people move from northern to southern Gaza, and then bombing southern Gaza, speaks for itself. Enough already. Let the aid in, keep the bombs out.
According to ABC news, Israel started dropping bombs on Gaza within hours of the Hamas pogrom. I don't think there had been any rallies in Seattle yet. It was still the middle of the night here. What do you make of that?
In no way do I justify excuse the attack, and I resent you're saying that. Please explain your reasoning, if you have any. All I said is that the rallies did not start until after Israel's counter attacks. Your "logic" escapes me.
It's hard to find a complete list. I would like to compile one too. The best bet is probably via the Federation or the IAC. I believe there are daily demonstrations at the federal building downtown. If people will email me their events I will publicize them.

Thank you for coverage of this perspective.
How best to combat antisemitism?
Clearly and consisently articulate jewish values which offer an alternative to increasingly dangerous ideologies. But what are they? I would suggest a start. Courage, compassion, wisdom, integrity, respect and faith. Add more if you like.
I think Jews have done this. It’s not working.

What do you make of the fact that the rallies started before Israel did any retaliation?

I think it’s a disingenuous line of reasoning and it justifies/excuses the attack.

Where do I find a list of rallies? I would like to go and observe, participate, support Israel. Thanks.

Or are you asking about the anti-Israel rallies?
